Students find out about the
ancient Roman history behind modern Christmas customs. They study how Saturnalia
was celebrated, in order to have their own celebration.
Students need to find, list, and /or make the following items:
- A listing of five customs during the festivals (10 points).
- A comparison of these customs to modern customs (10 points).
- A menu for a Saturnalia Feast with traditional meal courses
including drinks (10).
- A cookie recipe based on ancient sources (10 points).
- Two typical presents which were exchanged during the season and
substitution crafts for our times with pictures(10).
- Two Latin songs for the season including lyrics and musical scores (sound
files for extra credit 5)(10 points).
- A card wishing "Happy Saturnalia" in
Latin (10 points)
- A crafted traditional Roman mask (10 points)
